After you remove messages or attachments from your mailbox, the PST file size will not necessarily reduce by itself. In order to shrink the size of the PST file, you need to compact it. Disabling unnecessary plugins is a great way to make your Outlook start faster, run more reliably, take less memory. In Outlook 2003 there are three places to look for installed addins and to disable them. The issues documented in this section have been reported after installing the recent updates listed below.
My Outlook PST files (30+GB) were still accessible but running off a hard-drive that had started to fail with bad sectors. I was unable to clone the drive or copy the PST files to a new location.
